If you’re dealing with a small area or a few weeds, pulling them out at the roots is a good solution. (If you’re allergic, wear masks and gloves. Avoid clothes like shorts that expose skin.)

Large areas may require herbicide. This could also be the option if weeds resurface no matter how often you pull them. The application has to be smartly applied, or you risk killing the wrong vegetation. 

Timing

Go after weeds early in their growth spurts. Weeds flower quickly. Yank blooms if you don’t have time to pull them completely.
